Welcome to the 2024 Rendezvous Event, a thrilling collaboration between the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society and both the Alberta and BC Chapters of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers!

Location: Alford Lake Conservation Education Centre for Excellence

Get ready for an unforgettable experience at the picturesque Alford Lake Conservation Education Centre for Excellence. As we return to this incredible facility, we bring you an event filled with excitement and camaraderie, celebrating our shared passion for the great outdoors.

Event Highlights:

Diverse Activities: Explore shooting ranges, archery ranges, fishing, and hunting grounds – all within the expansive Alford Lake facility.

Workshops: Immerse yourself in a wealth of knowledge through workshops and engaging presentations. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, there’s something for everyone.

Event Schedule
Friday, April 26:
3:00-9:00 pm: Arrival and Camp Setup. Cabins are on a first-come, first-served basis.
7:00 pm: Campfire, Trivia Games, Sharing Stories, and Networking.

Saturday, April 27:
9:00 am: Bear Safety Workshop
10:30 am: Game Calling Workshop – Elk, Goose, Turkey, and Ducks (hosted by Western Canada’s best animal mimic)
12:00 pm: Lunch
1:00 pm: Game Handling / Field Dressing / Field Processing for Packout, etc. (working with a white-tail cadaver)
3:00 pm: Introduction to Fishing
Break for a Croatian BBQ Dinner (included with your ticket). Dinner will include a mix of wild game, beef, pork, and chicken with sides of roasted potatoes, Bannock, and salad.
Following dinner will be free time for the range, archery practice, and fishing.

Sunday, April 28:
7:00 or 8:00 am (TBD): Nature Walk to Clearwater River
10:00 am: Range Time and Practice Skills
12:00 pm: Lunch
1:00 pm: Skills Competition

Gear Options: We encourage you to bring your own gear. If this is not an option, you can borrow ours – everyone is welcome!

Join our workshop, ‘Rooted in Wisdom: Deer Aging Techniques‘, to explore the secrets hidden within wildlife teeth. Explore both the field technique of ‘tooth eruption and wear’ and the laboratory marvel of ‘cementum analysis’ – both dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of ungulate ages. Delve into the heart of these techniques, comparing their accuracy and precision, with a revelation of the superior accuracy of cementum analysis. Learn the art of tooth extraction and witness the seamless process of submitting your own wildlife teeth to the WAL for aging through cementum analysis. Elevate your understanding of deer populations and contribute to the advancement of wildlife knowledge and bolster your resume with applied experience. Participants will gain hands-on familiarity with the field technique of jaw aging, and the lab process of tooth extraction, inspection, preparation, and cementum analysis.
