ACTWS Student Chapter Grant

The Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society seeks to support the local TWS student chapters across the province by providing funding to run specific events. We offer annual support of $250-$1000 to each of the collegiate chapters who can apply at any time during the year. Each club can apply multiple times every year. However, the cumulative funding requested across all event submissions must not exceed $1000 per year. The Student Director and Executive Director will review each grant application to ensure it aligns with the Chapter’s strategic and operational plans and determine an appropriate funding amount based on the scope and needs of the proposal.

We also encourage student chapters to apply to granting opportunities in addition to this funding. Other avenues for offsetting larger costs include additional sponsorships, university or institutional support, fundraising, merchandise sales, and ticket purchases at the event.

The ACTWS is open to supporting events through providing other resources as well. We may be able to provide connections to wildlife professionals, equipment, and logistical support if needed. You may indicate interest for these other forms of support in the application.

For any questions about this grant, please email student@actws.ca for more information.

This grant can be used toward the following expenses:
  • Venues
  • Guest speaker honorariums
  • Workshop or training instructor fees
  • Permits, licences, or insurance required for an event
  • Accessibility costs to make events more inclusive
  • Equipment rentals
  • Transportation costs (school bus rental for field trip)
  • Offsetting professional development costs
  • Miscellaneous costs that can’t be covered by other funding avenues

Grant funding is intended to support meaningful student programming, events, and professional development opportunities. Funding will generally not be provided for routine club operating expenses, merchandise, prizes or giveaways, alcohol, or expenses that are not directly related to the proposed activity.

Funding will also not be provided for costs that have already been incurred prior to approval of the application.

If the grant application is approved, the Student Chapter is required to:
  1. Acknowledge the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society’s support for the event. This may be in the form of a brief acknowledgement at the start and end of the event. Additionally, the ACTWS logo can be displayed on event materials, such as posters and presentations at the event.
  2. Submit a brief post-event report (~500 words) to the ACTWS. This report should include financial statements, photos from the event, and a brief description of the event and its outcomes. A report should be sent no later than 2 weeks after the event.

Please note that the report and submitted photos may be shared with the ACTWS network through our newsletter, social media channels, website, or blog to highlight Student Chapter activities and the impact of the funding.

Amount:

Up to $1000 annually.

Deadline:

Anytime. Please submit the application at least one month prior to the event start.
